Awareness Raising Campaign on Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Strategies

Candlelight raised climate awareness, distributed stoves, supported forest management committees.

Candlelight recently concluded a 5-day village campaign aimed at raising awareness and knowledge regarding climate change impacts and adaptation strategies. The campaign targeted five villages: Dhuxunka, Walaalgo, Googeysa, Asha Ado, and Ceel-same. In total, 300 community members participated, including coordinators from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in Awdal, Gabiley, and Daadmadheedh regions. As part of the campaign, 200 energy-saving stoves were distributed among selected women in the five villages. This initiative is expected to reduce energy consumption for cooking in these households, contributing to sustainability efforts. Additionally, support materials were provided to Community Forest Management Committees (CFMCs) in five site closures located in Dhuxunka, Ceel-same, Walaalgo, Googeysa, and Bookh. These materials include double wall water bottles, hot tea vacuums, portable solar systems, solar chargers, solar torches, safari boots, and raincoats. The aim is to enhance the capacity of these CFMCs in forest management activities, thereby promoting sustainable practices within their communities.
