Abdiqadir’s Journey: Building Resilience Through Climate-Smart Farming
Abdiqadir Ismail Nur, a farmer from Magaalo-qalo, faced years of declining sorghum yields as rising temperatures and unpredictable rainfall threatened his family’s food security. His turning point came with the introduction of Tukhom Masaggo Yar, a drought-resistant variety of Proso millet.
After receiving hands-on training in planting techniques, soil management and post-harvest handling from Brack Project implemented by Candlelight, Abdiqadir adopted this climate-smart farming approach. In just one season, his previously struggling fields produced an abundant harvest—enough to feed his family and generate extra for sale. This marked a turning point, bringing financial stability and renewed pride.
Abdiqadir’s success has inspired neighboring farmers to explore Proso millet cultivation. His story stands as a powerful example of how innovation, training and determination can build resilience, enhance community food security and drive lasting change.
